Ideas Powered for Business – Voucher for Patents and Plant Varieties

The EU SME Fund is a grant scheme implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the European Union protect their rights of intellectual property.

Starting from 26 April 2023, alongside the benefits aimed at partially covering the registration activities of Trademarks and Designs at national and European level (Voucher 2), facilitation measures have been activated for the filing of national and European Patents (Voucher 3) and new plant varieties (Voucher 4).

• Voucher 3 finances up to a maximum of 1500 euros of eligible expenses for patents (filing and search fees for European patents filed with the EPO, filing, search and examination fees in an EU member state, fees for a ‘priority search report carried out by a national IP office of an EU Member State).

• Voucher 4 finances up to a maximum of 225 euros, to be used for the reimbursement of 50% of the online filing fee for a community plant variety right.
It is possible to submit Voucher applications, following the same procedures currently provided for Voucher 2, only in electronic format until 8 December 2023.
The Fund is a one-stop measure: grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until they run out.
